Tsa Presents "Homes for hounds" to Shelter
By: Brooke Daniel and Tyler Radabaugh
The St. Clare Walker Middle School Technology Student Association (TSA) Construction Challenge team presented three completed doghouses to Ricky Warren, Chief Animal Control Officer of Middlesex County. Animal Control is responsible for maintaining proper humane care, and treatment, of all animals within the county while supporting all other local and state public safety and health agencies. Mr. Warren's primary goal is "to serve and protect the public and promote a safer community through responsible animal ownership and humane care." The Middlesex County Animal Shelter plans to use the doghouses to house pets at the local shelter and donate them to adopting families. It is important for the animals leaving the shelter to be welcomed in a safe and secure home with reliable housing. Shelter representative, Mary Wakefield Buxton, said, "We are now looking for dogs to move into these three new, great doghouses! I think the act of helping dogs is contagious!" The Middlesex County Animal Shelter places unwanted or lost dogs on the Petfinder website, http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/VA309.html, in the hopes of finding homes for them. Shelter hours are by appointment between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Please call 804-758-2779 to schedule a visit. There are currently 27 dogs available for adoption. The TSA team, consisting of six students and their advisor, has a focus on the welfare of dogs in our community. Saylor Jensen is a member of the TSA Construction Challenge team and had this to say about the Homes for Hounds project, "It feels extremely rewarding to be part of a group that was able to help our furry friends in the Middlesex community." TSA Construction Challenge team members include: Brooke Daniel, Chloe Hodges, Saylor Jensen, Danielle Jones, Cole Radabaugh, Tyler Radabaugh, and TSA chapter advisor, Matthew Short. The SCW TSA wishes to thank Hampstead Farm, J.C. Pallet Company, Inc., and Wayne H. Bray and Son for materials donated to the project.
